London Meditation

Calming, integrating, manifesting.

Doug Duncan (Karma Chorpel Tashi) is a meditation teacher born in Canada, and known for his energetic, insightful, humorous, and highly practical approach to teaching paths of awakening. At the age of 24 he met his principal teacher Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche, the illustrious Canadian-born lama who was recognized as an awakened being by the leaders of all four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and who was known for integrating traditional Theravadin, Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist teachings in an eminently practical holistic approach that incorporates teachings of other mystical and religious traditions together with psychology, art and modern science.

Based on decades of practice and training with Namgyal Rinpoche in this comprehensive new approach to awakening, Doug Duncan has been teaching Dharma at centers around the world for over twenty years. He has done extensive insight practice and has received teachings from numerous Tibetan meditation masters including the 16th Karmapa, Kalu Rinpoche, Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the Dalai Lama among others. With a thorough grasp of the sciences and arts, Doug Duncan is also an experienced and excellent therapist.

Doug Duncan is primarily based in Japan and at the Clear Sky Meditation Centre in Canada, visiting the UK to teach each year.

The classes in Bromley are led by Duncan Cryle.  Duncan has been practicing meditation for 20 years and studied intensively with Doug Sensei since 2001.  After completing a Ph.D. in philosophy he turned to a career as an IT consultant in the financial district.  This eventually led to several years working in Tokyo where he met Doug Sensei.  After a year traveling and doing retreats with Sensei, he returned to working short-term IT contracts, spending the remainder of the year studying with Doug Sensei at the center in Japan or helping with the set-up and running of the new centre at Clear Sky.  Along with other members of Clear Sky he is also involved in helping to start social enterprises (for-profit businesses that are of benefit to the community and provide wholesome employment that also allows people time to attend meditation retreats).  His primary focus is to develop ways to apply and integrate the rich tradition of meditation teachings into our busy complex city lives.
